Father’s Day is right around the corner on June 21st, and if you’re looking for a way to celebrate the dads, grandfathers, husbands and father figures in your life, skip the necktie and give them something a little more memorable.

This week’s Cook’s Corner features a pairing that feels tailor-made for Father’s Day: a Smoked Maple Old Fashioned alongside warm Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies. It’s sweet, smoky, a little indulgent and exactly the kind of treat that says, “Today is your day.”

The Old Fashioned has long been considered one of the classic dad drinks. It’s simple, timeless and doesn’t need much dressing up. Adding a touch of maple syrup gives it a hint of sweetness while a smoked garnish takes it to another level. Pair it with a chocolate chip cookie loaded with crispy bacon, and you’ve got a combination that’s surprisingly perfect.

Smoked Maple Old Fashioned

Ingredients
• 2 ounces bourbon
• 1/2 ounce pure maple syrup
• 2 dashes Angostura bitters
• Orange peel
• Large ice cube
• Smoking wood chips or a smoked cocktail kit (optional)

Directions
1. Add bourbon, maple syrup and bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice.
2. Stir for about 30 seconds until chilled.
3. Strain over a large ice cube in a rocks glass.
4. Express an orange peel over the drink and drop it into the glass.
5. For a smoky finish, briefly smoke the glass or cocktail before serving.

 

Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients
• 1 cup butter, softened
• 3/4 cup brown sugar
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 2 eggs
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 8 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Cream together butter and both sugars until light and fluffy.
3. Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.
4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt.
5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
6. Fold in chocolate chips and crumbled bacon.
7. Scoop dough onto parchment-lined baking sheets.
8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
9. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
