Dr. Christy Rody

If you ask Dr. Christy Rody, she’ll tell you that her job is to “amplify life.”

A chiropractor at Converse Chiropractic, Dr. Rody says that many of her patients first come to her office for neck, back, or headache complaints. However, she believes that health goes far beyond just healing known issues and easing pain.

“It’s about living a more healthy life, moving better, being able to do activities we like to do,” she says. “And when we start from a young age with pediatric patients, we’re able to get patients’ health and spines off to a better start. It’s just so impactful on their lives and how their spines develop and grow.”

Dr. Rody says she was first attracted to chiropractic care due to its natural, holistic emphasis. “I love the idea of preserving your health rather than just looking for sick care and trying to fight off disease,” she says. “It’s more like, my body’s healthy, let’s do what we can to build longevity and to thrive, because when you’re not dealing with issues, when you can exercise like you mean to, you can live the lifestyle you want, and you’re not only better for yourself, but you’re better for your family, your coworkers, and your community. It just uplifts everyone around you.”

A 2016 graduate of Sherman College in Spartanburg, Dr. Rody and her husband moved to the Upstate after spending four years in Columbia, where she founded her first practice. The couple had family in the area, and loved the welcoming community and proximity to nature.

Now, having fallen in love with Spartanburg, Dr. Rody is excited to be expanding her practice to its new location on E. Main Street. The office officially opened on May 6, and features expanded parking and more treatment space for patients.

As Converse Chiropractic has grown, Dr. Rody says she’s loved having the opportunity to watch the families she serves grow along with it. “It’s beautiful to watch babies who came in because they had colic, or were spitting up, or were having stomach issues, to being thriving toddlers, to starting school. It’s such a full-circle moment to see them doing so well in their lives, and I get to be a small part of their little family.”

Chiropractic care, Dr. Rody says, is often misunderstood. “There’s a whole wellness lifestyle that goes with it,” she says. “If you wait to go to a chiropractor until you’re really injured or you’ve been sitting at a desk for 20 years, so many of your issues could have been avoided with a few routine visits earlier in life. It’s about catching these issues before patients become surgical candidates, or there’s nothing they can do about it and they’re having chronic mobility issues. If we can get the joints moving properly the way they need to, we can deter the arthritis and the big issues just from some gentle adjustments.”

Dr. Rody also notes that living in the digital age makes spinal care even more crucial. “Everyone is on their phones now,” she says, “we’re always looking down. And for children growing up with screens and looking down so much, their posture gets impaired. The head comes forward, the shoulders come forward, and not only does the posture not look as good, but they can’t move as well, and you’re restricting blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which is not something you want, especially in childhood. So it’s a beautiful thing to be able to help get people on the right track with their spines.”

Dr. Rody is currently accepting new patients at Converse Chiropractic, where she offers chiropractic services, as well as laser treatments, which can be key in alleviating muscular issues. She will also be offering expanded hours later this summer.
