Three new Trustees elected to Wofford College Board

June 17, 2026

The South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church has elected three new members to the Wofford College Board of Trustees, adding experienced leaders from the fields of business, philanthropy and finance to the college’s governing body.

Elected June 9 were Wesley Goings III of Jackson, Mississippi; Betty Montgomery of Campobello; and Dr. Richard L. Williams Jr., a 1993 Wofford graduate from Chapin.

Goings is president of Telapex Inc., a Mississippi-based telecommunications holding company, where he has served in leadership roles for nearly three decades. Montgomery is a philanthropist, author and master gardener with a long history of service to educational and nonprofit organizations throughout Spartanburg County. She previously served on Wofford’s Board of Trustees from 2010 to 2022 and, along with her late husband, Walter Montgomery Jr., has been a longtime supporter of the college.

Williams serves as president of Chubb Benefits, overseeing multiple business units across the United States and Canada. A graduate of Wofford College, he holds advanced degrees in mathematics from Wake Forest University and the University of South Carolina and is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

In addition to the election of the new trustees, the conference reelected Ronnie Andrews, John Bauknight IV, David Johnson, Monique McDowell, Dorothy Acee Thomas and Erin Mitchell Watson to four-year terms on the board. Christopher Carpenter and Ashley Richardson Allen completed their service and rotated off the board.

The board also selected its officers for the coming term. Steven Mungo, Class of 1981, will continue serving as chairman, while Howard Coker, Class of 1985, will serve as vice chair. Watson, a member of the Class of 1991, was named secretary.

Wofford’s 31-member Board of Trustees serves as the college’s governing body and is responsible for overseeing the institution’s mission, policies and long-term direction. Trustees are elected to staggered four-year terms by the South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and may serve up to 12 consecutive years.
