The Hub City Spartanburgers are bringing a bold new look to the ballpark this season with the unveiling of their new alternate identity, Gusanos de Mezcal del ‘Burg.
The colorful brand was introduced last week during a community event at Mezcal in downtown Spartanburg, where fans gathered to celebrate the reveal, meet team representatives and get a first look at the new merchandise. Supporters browsed racks of bright pink jerseys and hats while the team mascot greeted visitors and posed for photos. A prize wheel, giveaways and merchandise tables added to the festive atmosphere as fans celebrated the team’s latest addition.
The alternate identity is part of Minor League Baseball’s Copa de la Diversión, a league-wide initiative designed to honor and celebrate Hispanic culture and the influence of Latino communities across the country. For the Spartanburgers, the program also offers a chance to recognize the growing Hispanic population throughout Spartanburg and the Upstate.
When the team takes the field as the Gusanos de Mezcal del ‘Burg, fans will see a vibrant new logo and color scheme. The design features a festive worm mascot wearing a sombrero and holding maracas, inspired by the traditional worm sometimes found in bottles of mezcal, a distilled agave spirit popular in Mexico. The bright pink, lime green and black color palette gives the uniforms a striking look that reflects the lively spirit behind the promotion.
The Spartanburgers will wear the alternate identity for three games during the 2026 season:
• Tuesday, May 5
• Friday, June 17
• Thursday, Sept. 3
All three games are presented by Ingles Markets.
Team officials say the promotion is designed to bring the community together while highlighting the culture and traditions that contribute to the region’s identity.
Fans who attended the unveiling showed their excitement by purchasing the newly released merchandise and sharing photos from the event. The team later thanked supporters on social media, noting the strong turnout and enthusiasm for the new look.
Those interested in attending the games can purchase tickets online or in person at the Spartanburgers’ ticket office, located at 158 Pollard St., Suite 100, next to the team store near Fifth Third Park.
The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. during away series. During homestands, hours extend from noon until the eighth inning on weekdays and 12:30 p.m. until the eighth inning on weekends.
Team representatives encourage fans to stop by the box office to purchase tickets in person and avoid online service fees. Buying early can also help secure the best seats before the season begins.
With its eye-catching colors and playful mascot, the Gusanos de Mezcal del ‘Burg identity adds another layer of personality to Spartanburg’s newest professional sports team. For fans, it offers a chance to celebrate culture, community and baseball all at once when the special Copa games arrive at Fifth Third Park this season.
